Race bike #2 Empty Race bike #2

Post by Death Magnetic Sun Jan 10, 2010 1:37 pm

Well after much deliberation and heartache, I bought a race bike.
I sat down recently and added up all i taught it would cost me to turn my roadgoing RVF into a race bike.
Between the parts needed to build it and the parts needed to have a good aray of spares, the bill was looking at around the 2000Euro mark. So panic Stations set in.
Then one Sunday the Joker asked me if I'd head over to Naas Superbikes cause he was picking up a new shiney pair of race boots. I was talking to Jack over there, telling him about building me race bike and low and behold he just happened to have a fully race prepared RVF400 under a bike cover in his back yard. It was love at first sight, A beautiful red and white machine with the number 69 on it. And an exhaust note that will wake the dead. You'll know when this bike is coming for you.
So i left a deposit and picked it up on Christmas eve 09.
So far so good.
Now to put my own twist on her.

So its 10 days berfore the track training day and you'd expect me to have the bike all ready, right. Well no is the answer. The bike is sitting in the workshop with bits missing off everywhere.. I'd be the first one to give the boyz stick over not being ready. Its all mechanicaly sound, just needs plugs, oil, filter, sprockets, chain, a bit of lockwirein, the fairings need to be sprayed and fitted, screen needs to be fitted, stickers have to be put on. As well as all the other the other little jobs that i'll come across along the way. I'm gonna have a craic at setting the suspension to suit my weight and riding style. A bike that handles well can be ridden faster and if i end up being shit out on track i want it to be down to me as a rider and not the bikes fault. So pressure is on to get finished and double check everything. Game On.

Get the finger out! Less tea drinking and you'll be sorted in no time Very Happy . I've just that new chain/ sprockets to put on and I'll be grand. Debating weather or not to get those fork springs sorted. Might be a bad idea to go pulling them out so close to the track day. Plus its a good excuse to use if I'm slow!

Here's my list of excuses to use so far.
- Wrong springs for my weight in forks.
- Front tire is shagged from going too fast last year.
- Visor steaming up all the time.
- Slower riders kept holding me up.

My good man, Tea is the very back bone of this team. Laughing
Its alright, We'll make it.
I would'nt be going mad touching forks this close, unless they are a major problem.
